The other week I bought a secondhand RD68 DSC radio from somebody in Scotland, advertised on Boats and Outboards. I spoke to him on the phone and he assured me it was in excellent condition, but was unable to supply me with a photo cos' he didn't have a digi camera. Fair enough methinks (he sounded okay, and he was Scottish so he had to be a decent sort of person) So I send off a cheque for £240 incl. the postage (not too bad eh?) The one important factor was that it had the flush mounting kit (an extra £40)
So what do I get today?
a) The radio, with a scratch on the screen.
b) No holder for the microphone
c) Flush mount kit broken and useless
d) Bracket on the side of the VHF broken
e) Bracket on the other side missing.

So I phoned him up tonight to ask what he was going to do about it. Apparantly he had "never seen" ALL of the above faults and is not going to do anything cos' its not his problem anymore.
How can you trust anybody and how can somebody lie like this????

Uh oh, you've been seen off! Hope it wasn't from the for sale forum.

Couldn't you have bort a new set for less than £240? Or is an RD68 something special?

I have the flush mount kit and mike holder from my new VHF, don't know if it will fit yours though they look a pretty standard size may be worth a try if it saves £40.00, my new one same fitting as old so didn't use them. I can drop off on your boat when down next. Sorry to hear of your problem though does make you angry.

People like this guy find it very easy to lie, but how he could say he hadn't seen the missing bits is a bit rich. Sorry to hear of your probelms, destroys your faith in honesty. You could bombard him with mail and phone calls, also junk mail etc. Even try and find out who he is, where he boats etc, but all this wont get your money back, that, I'm afraid has gone.

What's worse, he's probably bragging to his mates how he screwed a sassenach. You'll have to put it down to experience, methinks

I take it he has already cashed your cheque.

You can always get your own back by having a pop at his credit rating. Just need to know the right people. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

This is true and I'm not sure whether I should still be proud of the fact, but I once sent a funeral director complete with hearse and wreath to someone's house in the middle of the night for being just such an a***hole as this guy. Also sent several costly telegrams to Brazil using his telephone number. This was in the days when BT would let you do that.

I know exactly how you feel ! nothing worse than being ripped of/conned/ mislead
by a plausable and apparently pleasant LIAR,AAARRRRGGGHHHHH you are however in possession of his address so every magazine/newspaper, that is offering free gifts, discounts, marital aids, disability aids,oh!! and don't forget the porn as well, should be getting a request for services and goods to be sent to said address you won't get any money back but you will get some kind of revenge !!!!

<hr width=100% size=1>man made it ,man can repair it, i think??

Yeah, I bet the funeral director is still laughing about it now!!!

Did you pay the funeral director out of interest for his time and efforts on your behalf? If not you're as bad as the people being complained about here!

Ari.

Don't be silly. Of course I didn't. Nor did I pay BT for the telegrams. But back in '78 when I was madder then hell at the time, it didn't seem to matter then. Now I would probably do something much more sensible, as I have even less tolerance for a***holes now, but plan things better.
