Having sold my wooden Vertue No 24 I still hanker after another boat but do not have the time to maintain a wooden classic.
But I would like a Fibreglass Vertue 11. Is there anybody out there who knows of one for sale or likely to come on the market ?

Thanks

I initially thought it was sold, but they normally remove the price on their web page at that stage - which they had not.

Have Boatshed told you it is sold?

Even with a complete rebuild of the interior, if everything else is sound, it could be a nice little project. Hell, you will even get £1k back for the cooker!

Have you read 'My Old Man and the Sea'? Story of a father and son team who built a Vertue from a Bossoms GRP hull and sailed it from New England down to the Horn via the canal and back. No engine. Very good read. Smallest US reg boat to round the Horn.

Another nice bok is 'The Restless Wind' by Peter Hamilton. Not at all about flatulence but a story of sailing from Scotland to Tahiti in the fifties.

A lovely story, shows what you can do with a Vertue.

Kent Boatshed. Slow to reply, three promises of phone call, still waiting sent another EMail. Will most likely driven up to view.

I had the same experience with another broker last week. Three e-mails requesting a viewing of a boat (two weeks notice with a specific date and time as we were returning from Portugal and on a tight schedule). No response.

On the proposed day of viewing the broker replied saying the boat had been sold. However, a week later and it is still on their website.

I feel sorry for the good brokers having to carry the burden of the wankers.

Boat shed in my experience are not good apart from Ian at Solent, and don't start me on Wales, find any price quoted is 20/30 Percent over the odds but if you are interested in one bid your money, they can only tell you to go fort and multiply.

Except insofar as the rig is cutter rather than Bermudian, the Vancouver 27 or 28 is a very similar boat, and as there were many more made, there are therefore more available second-hand than GRP Virtues. Expect to pay circa £25-30k for a V27, or £30-40k for a younger V28.

Nothing wrong with a Vancouver 27 or 28; or many others.

Just that, IMO, nothing but a Vertue will do.

Particularly if you have had one before and I have had GRP and wood.

Nobody in the world would have persuaded me to accept an alternative on both occasions. :)

Fair enough. But the OP can't frikkin' find one - and if I couldn't find what I wanted, I'd consider something else very similar...

I've got a soft spot for Virtues but looking at that one on boatshed I am struck by how pokey they look inside compared to my Macwester 27.That one looks like a cracker for 10 grand & not much wrong with the inside either but would I swap.....naa.

Sorry to be pedantic, I know it was just a quick post, but, of course, they're both bermudan rigged (except for some early, gaff rigged Vertues). The Vertue, however, is a sloop.

Thanks. I'm very aware of that - in my post I omitted the term 'sloop' by mistake.

The modern Vertue is a Bermudian sloop. The Vancouver is a Bermudian cutter.

:-)

I have had a Vancouver 28 and a 32.but the Vertue which was the subject of a 3 year restoration gave me so much pleasure and they sail and handle so well it was just the maintenance that I could not keep up with. Just need a smaller classic boat and the Vertue 11 ticks
all the boxes.. It's not just about accommodation, there is also the look back factor.if you have not sailed on a Vertue you have missed a sailing experience .

But it is not very similar. The Vertue was designed in 1936 and has never been changed (apart from a fractional increase in beam on GRP). It has half the volume of a Vancouver 27/28, twice the keel and three times the looks. They are worth waiting for. :p

Regarding sail plan. The Standard version, following the initial gaff rigged 'Andrillot' was a 'Slutter' rig with bumpkin.
