Sitting in the sardine can they call Shepherds Wharf on Saturday I noticed (for the first time) a few yachts moored up over on Venture Quay enjoying acres of space and what looked from a distance like shore power too. Until then I'd onlyever noticed large rusty commercial boats there and didnt even know it was open to the public.

Has anyone moored there - if so what's it like?

Used it for a lunchtime stopover a few months ago (with Oen). There was shore access then. The most wobbly piled pontoons I have ever been on.

Haven't been there yet but found this on the Cowes website in the Harbourmaster's review:

[ QUOTE ]
The new Venture Quay pontoons at East Cowes were commissioned last year and now provide an additional 20 fully serviced, alongside berths and more boats can be accommodated by rafting. These berths are a short harbour taxi ride across the River from Town Quay.

We called in on Friday but did not stay. The pontoons are wide and heavy. They are meant to be "fully serviced". I saw water but it looked like the electric boxes were locked although I did not investigate.

There is a bridge ashore but the gate is locked. Access is intended to be by water taxi. I did not see anywhere close on that the side of the river to land a dinghy. Plenty of space on Friday, but only a few spaces left on Sat (although Cowes was very busy with both the Yacht Haven and East Cowes full). Price is same as other Cowes mid-stream moorings.

Beware the strong stream as you approach.
