Hmmm. I eventually found a bit about it on the Isle of Wight Council site. It quotes £1.50 per metre per day for moorings and £2 per metre per day for pontoons (when available); these are 2003 prices. It also gives a 'phone number so I think I'll give them a call ...
Just visited Ventnor "marina" this week. Couldnt get in though because it has badly silted up. We were in a moody 346 bilge keeler and when we arrived about 3hrs before high tide there was approx 18 "of water in the harbour. We had phoned up the "harbourmaster" on our way in who seemed to think we would have no problem getting in. Luckily we were intercepted by a local before we got there who explained the true situation. He suggested it is only really available for HW+/- 1 1/2 hrs. There are however 3 strong mooring bouys just outside the harbour which we used in the end for an overnight stay. A bit choppy but OK in the flat calm we had that night. Harbourmaster is supposed to provide a free water taxi to bring you ashore from the moorings but on this occasion changed his mind after an hour and didnt collect us!!
Fees would have been £10 to use a bouy outside the harbour or £15 inside the harbour.
For the last few years I have seen numerous threads on this place, if i still had a yacht it seems like a cool place to sail to from we Chi Harbour! But there is always posts like above or worse. I think the Isle of Wight Council are behind this place more than anything else. Maybe its time we got togther as a group and started mixing it up a little with a few letters and suggstions, I am sure they are doing the right thing, maybe a little badly organised but if we could give them the gentle nudge then it might workout in our favour? Only an idea!
