Following advice from some members the forum, I found and purchased some Ventaire (not sure if it has the 'e' on the end), under mattress anti-condensation stuff ( a bit like loosley wound nylon brillo pad between two layers of fabric). It is not cheap at £35 per sheet, 2 metre x 1 metre, thus costing 70 quid to do the foreward cabin berth. The difference though is amazing - being a modern boat the mattress lays on GRP and varnished marine ply, and has no chance to breathe - hence there was considerable condensation - now there is absolutely none, (and as an added bonus it has given an extra 15mm depth to the mattress, which has made it a lot more comfortable).

I'm sure there are some non commercial products that can be used, but I would thoroughly recommend Ventaire. Thanks to whoever it was for pointing me in the right direction.

I certainly do. I was on his boat doing 30 knots and despite my nose being up wind AND a metre higher than his a*se, when he let rip, my eyes watered.
