Yes, you can anchor in the canal east of Torcello Island, in front of Burano. And in front of Poveglia island in by the Lido, and again in front of the harbour exit in Malamocco (Lido). There are places where you also can anchor past Punta Sabbioni in the northern part of the lagoon If you wish to have more details, ask.

To the extent that your pm's don't contain really personal stuff, this might be off wider interest to the members of the forum.

You are right! No personal stuff, anyhow. And here is my answer:

Hi Vic, you will find all the detailed charts of the lagoon here
http://www.comune.venezia.it/flex/cm.../IDPagina/3836

You can download them and have a look. Depth are quite reliable; mind that the 0 sea level of the charts is 20 cm higher than the real 0: in practice you always have +20 cm of water than what is reported in the charts. Always follow the canals!!! Remember also that there are tides, here you can check them http://www.comune.venezia.it/flex/cm.../IDPagina/2104
you'll find the rules and some advice regarding lagoon navigation here http://www2.comune.venezia.it/motond..._navigante.pdf , it's in Italian but with the help of google translator you should be all right
Btw: works are progressing at the 3 entrances from the sea to the lagoon for Mose project (submersible dams against high water) so the charts will be outdated in that area. to check the situation have a look here http://www.silvenezia.it/?q=node/123

I think Jaba is a super chap, so much good info given freely!
Sailaboutvic, you are really getting the miles in!
We really enjoyed a visit to Venice's lagoon, in lovely sunny November weather, the islands were magic!
Took the "Eurostar" I jest not, from Rome to Venice.Driver announced the incredible speed of whatever, maybe 400kph at one stage!
Stayed in a crumbling palace in Cannaregio(spellcheck) and well pleased with the entire experience.Vaparetto (public waterbus) was €15 for 3 days use, ideal!
Enjoy Vic and crew!

guys thanks for all the Info , we now been sitting on a lovely spot opposite the island of Burano , well when I say Lovely I mean before 08.00 and after 20.00 in between them times it a bit like being parked in the middle of Brands hatch , any one who think the Italian power boat drive drive fast , man you have to stop here , it's non stop people shooting past as incredible speed , every thing from ferries to work boats , fishing man to pleasure boats, although come 8 PM it all seen to slow down .
and a great evening is to be had . before people wonder why we want to sit in the middle of an race track , well we don't, we out exploring Venice during the day .
so again thanks Jaba ,
Paukian Hi , yes we do get around , our season start early around March and so far we sailed from Sicily where we sent the winter , to Tunisia , stopping at all three islands between Malta and Tunisia , we visit Malta for a month and then back to Sicily , from there it been Greece , Croatia and Now we are in Venice ,
some few more days here before crossing back to Croatia to spend another two months .it wont stop there we will be sailing until the end of Nov this year where we plain to have a rests for two months before returning back to Tunisia for some late winter sun before the season start again, god willing . so I guess you could say we do get about . sitting in one anchorage for weeks on end isn't our thing , we love exploring places . the way we look at it is , we havent given up life on land to sit in the same place in the same anchorages year after year , maybe same day that time will come but untill then , the Europe and North ,Middle East after and got a lot of coast then need to be explored .
