I would like to veneer my fridge door (about 3' x 2') to match the surrounding woodwork. It is matt plastic (not shiny like usual kitchen fridges). Can it be done, any tips? There is no room to fit a wooden door in front of the fridge door, which would be the best solution. Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks.

no reason why not, Use a contact adhesive having roughed up the plastic first with sandpaper. Easiest done if the door is removed from appliance and set down horizontal.

You can use "iron on" veneer or buy double sided adhesive that you put behind the veneer and use an iron and roller to stick it down. All you have to ensure is that you don't use too much heat and burn the veneer. A good tip is to buy veneer as thick as possible which allows you to sand well after application to get a good finish. Veneer is available in thicknesses up to about 1.5 mm....

Just done the very same thing to my engel fridge door.

Used FORMICA.
If the door is the same as ours it will have either an allu or plastic frame which is sloted to hold the seal on the inside & a metal plate on the outside.
Part the frame(which is only pushed together)& remove the plate, use the plate as a template for the formica, cut it to the same size & refit with the steel plate behind.
After replaceing the frame it looks like it bellonged there in the first place. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
