I wonder if anyone can help …I`ve just wired up a new VDO rev counter to my engine and I`m in the process of setting it up …
My engine is a six cylinder Mercedes 3 litre type 603 about ten years old as fitted to the Etype saloon…and I retained the pulse transmitter that senses off the flywheel…I have a range of adjustment on the instrument from -20 to +20 and the instructions say to set to the no. of engine puses….

So the question is, how or where can I find out the number of pulses for my engine?…..or is there an average that I could put in as a default?…..it seems to work through the full range but I would like it to be reasonably accurate….

You will need to look at what the engine pick off sensor is actually detecting, normally they will essentially count the teeth on the flywheel, but ths does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. If this where to be the way yours works, then you simply count the teeth and there is your answer.

Mercedes technical support will be able to tell you how your sensor is working and the pulses per rev.

Good luck.
