A follow on from my previous e-mail posted a couple of weeks ago about a Volvo Penta Tacho with a problem with the engine hour counter display.
As recommended by Piers, I have taken the instrument out and left it sitting on top of a radiator (at home) for about a week, after giving it a thorough drying with the (wife's) hair dryer. After refitting to the boat the display has returned - with the correct hour count !! So, I have given it a spray with Aquastop (see PBO December Issue) and am hoping for the best. In the meantime I have contacted VDO in Rome who say that these instruments are not repairable; also contacted VDO in Germay who say they cannot supply spare parts due to their contract with Volvo. I am now waiting for a reply from a couple of Volvo main dealers to see if they can supply spare parts.
Thanks again for the advice from those who replied to my original mail.
