If I buy a boat in Galway and bring it back over to the Clyde do I have to pay VAT?
Saw an advert for a nice boat at a good price, but don't want to get stung.
Also was wondering, as it would be a private sale with no broker involved, how can I be sure there is no outstanding finance on the boat?
Thanks

Galway is in the EU so unless she is VAT free at the Mo you are ok

Buying a boat in Ireland is exactly the same as buying in the UK so the same checks apply. They have the same registration system and contract law. So follow the same process using the check list in the RYA booklet on buying secondhand boats.
