This must have come up many times in the past but knowing nothing about VAT I seek your advise. An Italian friend, who we are trying to help, purchased a 2002 Moody in 2012 and was informed by the broker that VAT had been paid. I have seen the original sales litrature & it does indeed state VAT was paid when the boat was first purchased in the Uk. Here we are all these years later and he wishes to sell the boat but potential buyers wish to see proof of the VAT payment. How does he go about getting the necessary paperwork to prove the payment has been made ? Thank you.

Does he not have the paperwork from the original purchase? If he purchased the boat through a broker or similar he probably needs to contact them in the first instance if they still exist. Otherwise, I suspect that a T2L might be his best bet. If you search for it or look at the RYA website you will find details.
