I have had a busy time recently (hooray!) but also had my fill of some pretty ugly behavior from those buying boats. To the point last week I really really had had enough and wanted to jack it all in. Some of it was just so plain WRONG and despicable. I am past being surprised but am still always astonished how some people just don't give a monkeys about others.

..anyhow I digress.

Last week in the thick of it all I had a call from a nice sounding gentleman who said he was not buying or selling through me but could he pay me or send me something for some advice on some VAT difficulties he was having buying elsewhere.

I said no, fill me in and I'll see if I can help. We went on to discuss the ins and outs and possible remedies and I gave him some contacts that may be able to help him further.

Today there was a knock at the door and a parcel arrived.

Inside was a bottle of whisky from the said gentleman.

Not just a bottle of whisky, but a fine single malt.

I think he posts on here, so thank you very much indeed!

I shall enjoy a glass in front of the fire when I (finally) finish work tonight.

You made my day.

I always wondered whether VAT 69 got its name as a result of some nefarious dealings with a customs officer. The mind boggles!

Enjoy your malt.

My favourite currency. Yum.

People are often nonplussed when seeking to pay me for some advice or favour. I usually reply that bottle of something would be nice, cash is somehow not 'done'. But I am an amateur, and you are a professional, and it warms me to think you are chuffed by the pourboire for a favour freely given.
Cheers Jon

A nice gesture, but not that nice if you don't drink the stuff. I do wish people would realise that not everyone drinks it, and ask first. I've had loads of them over the years, and they mean nothing to me so end up passing them on.

Afterthought - I'll keep one on the boat to share with fellow Scuttlebutters on the Poole trip.

I offer a service to take any of your (and any other fourmite's) spare bottles away and dispose them responsibly, pm for details ...
