VAT and RCD on selling a yacht

A question on the RCD regulations and VAT. I’ve a friend who has purchased his yacht in Canada approx. 10 years ago, the boat was built in Twain in 1987 to Lloyds A1 standard (I think that’s correct), and he is now looking to sell his yacht in the UK. What does he need to do with regards to VAT and RCD? Any comments would be appreciated.

I'm asking some similar questions just now - see Import from US / VAT. Since mine's a popular UK build I'd assumed RCD restrictions wouldn't apply but I suppose I'd better look into that too since none of the VAT regs make sense either.
