Varnish thinner

Is varnish thinner pretty universal? I have a tin of Epifanes thinner but the Epifanes varnish went off as I hadn't properly resealed the tin. Will the thinner be OK with other varnishes e.g. Le Tonkinois?

I would use it with Le Tonk, actually with epifanes I use white spirit.

But not if using polyurethane or 2 pack.

I would normally only mix thinner with varnish that I was going to use immediately. After closing the tin I always invert the tin to create a sealed joint before turning upright for storage.

My top tip for varnish and similar products is to use an old plastic milk container. Put the varnish in, then squeeze it to get the air out before sealing.

The Epifanes thinner appears to be white spirit.

White spirit is the recommended thinner and brush cleaner for Le Tonkinois
