Hi, need answers and could do with opinions on a few questions.

Does anyone know type of spark-plug for a Johnson SC 10S 1.5HP c 1973 vintage outboard? It was a gift and I'm fed up with rowing!

Anyone ever used the indutrial style harnesses for lifelines on board. They look lovely and comfy (and a bit inexpensive). Additionally for securing Jackstays any comments, eye bolts vs U bolts vs hideously expensive pad-eyes, or maybe, god forbid simply lashing the fellas to my pullpit? Are the B and Q galvanised U bolts man enough for the job?

Any hints on how to paint perished rubber, previously painted over and so not rescuable using the tyre black stuff?

B & Q galvanised, wont last long, the galvanising is only there to stop them rusting in the shop, they will rust like blazes on the sea. U bolts are the best bet, they spread the load, especially if you use a big plate underneath them, pad eyes with four bolts and a plate are the ultimate, rem,ember the strains on these plates, if a man goes overboard or is thrown across the boat can be several thousands of pounds!

I have seen "Sign Writers" black paint used to refurbish perished rubbers, it has high covering properties so you don't need a lot; as it's designed to last for years on signs it stands up pretty well, it is a bit expensive though.

Sorry can't answer your query about spark plugs... But as before don't use B&Q galvanised bits and pieces - some of them are only Zinc Plated not proper Hot Dip Galvanised so will only last for a matter of days before showing rust. For jackstays use at least 8mm diameter U bolts with large backing pads underneath, as large as practical, of say at least ½" thick marine plywood, together with the ss strap you usually get with the U bolt. Also I prefer Webbing(2000Kg breaking Strain - Jimmy Green again) as it does not roll underfoot as wire does.
Have seen the Industrial harnesses and they seem over the top, heavy and cumbersome to put on. Again I think they only have Zinc Plated fittings not Stainless Steel. go for the Marine type - try jimmygreen.co.uk he does deals if you buy more than one. He's usually at all the boat Jumbles.
