I have very recently purchased from the first owner a 1965 Van Lent Super Holland 51 ft, fitted in 1983 with twin Mercedes OM 352 but otherwise all original. As the owner is ill and unavailable for advice I am interested in corresponding with anyone with experience of these craft and any tips for use and maintainance. She will remain based in Holland for the time being and initially be used in the inland waters although I hope to take her to the Baltic later on and eventually to the Med. Any advice, experiences most welcome.

Welcome to the fora

Van lent made and continue to make a fine motor boat, and Mercedes reputation for quality & longevity with truck engines is second to none. (the accountants friend, slow heavy & last for ever)

If you are concerned about the engines have a word with the merc re builders in crew, or with your local truck agent

We had OM314 engines in our first boat and they gave excellent service.

Which part of Holland are you based in? Merc truck dealer in aalsmeer was very helpful when we needed some bits long ago.

Thanks for your swift response. The boat is based in Heeg Freisland, where it has lived in a boat house all its life. I motored in her for 5 or 6 hours last week and the engines seemed fine, maybe a little smokey but she has not been used for 5 years so needed a good blast! I will bear in mind your experience with truck dealer in aalsmeer. regards Nick
