Vacuum packing bags

Bought an assorted pack of packmates for last sking holiday, worked great for about 10 mins, then they started to leak and filled up with air. IMHO they are pretty useless.

My wife bought a pack of 5 from Matalan and we used one to take a memory foam mattress by air to France. This was a standard double 2" thick. It was brilliant. A great floppy lump turned into a board you could cantilever from one end by hand. Four weeks later when we flew, it hadn't changed.

Recommended.

Can't remember the price but they struck me as cheap.

My wife says the ones where you need a vacuum cleaner work well, and particularly those that have a "zip" top rather than rod. The roll-up ones are more difficult to use on board unless you have a large hard area to apply pressure. For all types, after used a few times it takes more time and patience to avoid them leaking. No particular brand recommendation. Our original ones came from Lakeland.

i had some but they started to leak and now won't trust them alone. You can pretty much make your own airless bag by wrapping things tighter and tighter with clingfilm. Or of course, use airless bag sucking air out with vacuum, then wrapping the resulting thing with clingfilm.

It's a mistake to get airless bags full of things and cram them all in a locker, else if/when the bags leak the locker get a bit smashed open from the inside out...
