V69 thread which type ?

I've always bought the Dabond from Solent Sewing and never had any troubles with it. Sorry but hadn't come across the other thread.

One thing to note.. I believe the white and the black are coloured more permanently. All other colours are dyed later in the manufacturing process so are not as colour fast.

Just a thought.

Been using this thread from Point North for all my projects https://www.profabrics.co.uk/collec...3000m-v69-bonded-polyester?variant=5940889411. Bought a cone from them a few years back and still don't seem to have made much of an impression on it. Boats in the Med and no signs of any UV deterioration in the thread or in their acrylic canvas over about five years now.

I look in there now and then, first went to look for Sunbrella and Top Gun.

Thread is not cheap though, is it better stuff at twice the price ?

Good info, but the state of my sewing I need a dark blue so it is harder to see ;) The Canopy will be a dark blue.

I see a few folk say the only colour I will need is White. Why is that ?

Hi there ,
as an ex sailmaker I can advise that if you go to a M40 thread as we used to for all covers and canopies , anything relating to 'canvas work' essentially , it is great in all but one factor - UV stability.
The thread swells when wet, so when sewing it you can use a larger needle , say a 130 and reduce the risk of the thread getting hot and snapping frequently as with Dabond or Diabond V69.
The downside is that , whilst it assists with waterproofing the fabric , the M40 WILL perish with UV degradation , the colour is a great indication of the state of degradation and gives you the advance warning to reseam all seams before they part.
Now the trend is to hang the weatherproofing qualities of using M40 , and just use the V69 thread , best suited with a 110 size needle but please do sew slower to keep the temperature lower on the needle or you'll melt the thread and repeatedly have the top thread snapping which will eventually lead to a fouled bobbin and the possibility of knocking the lower timing out as it locks up the bobbin case.
Best of luck and hope this helps a bit .
Kayospruce will sell you the thread of your choice , as a non business customer you may have to meet a minimum order value , but the cost is considerably less than you've been paying .

Leads to lots of bad language as well.
Dead right about re-stitching before it needs doing. Trouble is the only way to tell if the stitching has lost its strength is by pulling!
