Hi All....Im hoping that the forum posse here can save my blood pressure with all your worldly knowledge with this one ..... WARNING, it will take a bit of explaining so please bare with me........ loading boat on trailer leg stopped raising at half height.. seeked advice.. "start with relays on pump"....bought new, no change..swapped old ones around, no change.. had no choice to get home so pulled out ram/leg pins, lifted by hand n blocked off for drag home.... so ALL this week ive been trying to locate fault but what ever i do its either worse or no change !!....I have managed to get the leg up by switching the ignition on while holding the lift button at same time..it worked for about 4secs each time while it "organizes" itself then stops eg..turn on key, gauge shows read out then goes blank which stops pump......but even that has stopped now....BUTTTTT now its WORSE !!!!!......while fiddling with something else today, in cabin!!, just gave it a quick try n...AAAAAHHHHHHH !!!!!!....... the pump keeps running for 5/10 secs then stopping for 15/20 secs EVEN WITH KEY OFF !!!!!.....have had to disconnect pump with the plug as wiring is getting warm NOT HOT YET !!!......to add insult to injury, the leg is fully up and the reservoir is now over flowing !!!!......surely it should be down when rams are up ?? no, ive not topped it up or tampered in anyway .... SO OVER TO YOU FOLKS all ideas gratefully received, illegal or otherwise as i just want MY LEG TRIM WORKING AGAIN !!!....THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS

I take it you have a VP type gauge with the Led's, does the readng match the leg position as the gauge controls the pump depending on the info from the trim sender. If they don't tally first thing is to check/calibrate the sender. Also check the wiring isn,t damaged/ shorted and the trim button isn't faulty. IIRC there is a 3rd relay in the trim harness under the dash near the gauge so check that is ok. As regards the oil, there is oil both sides of the ram piston so the pump just moves it from one side or the other so the level should remain fairly constant unless there is air getting in and the pump is aerating the oil.

Steve, I have an old pump that was swapped out due to the leg not dropping, diagnosis was the pump at fault after swapping over the pumps on Bizzy Bee and the fault followed.. looks like one or more of the valves in pump head had gone tits up. Happy for you to take to to see if the symptoms change to what I had or stay the same so you at least know if it's a pump issue (you start to experience symptoms like I had) or it's something external to the pump affecting the operation of the pump (symptoms remain that you cannot raise the leg whereas I could with my faulty pump).. presume you've checked for leaking rams and pink fluid too? I had leaking rams at one point too and repaired them successfully with the seal kits (easy job). Pump is here at home if you fancy popping round for it.

Hi G...THANKS FOR THE OFFER, but i have managed to get some life into the system, (but i dont know how or why !!!!)...all is working correctly now until its lifted to the low 20s were everything just shuts itself off !!!!...then it will only work in 4/5 secound bursts by using the ignition method mentioned earlier !!!!! FYI all the relays have been removed n refitted.. during the lifting the gauge readout is working until the 20s the drops out and that is when all stuff dies.... BUT the unit is not dead because the red led on the gauge stays alight !!!!.... plenty much head scratching !!

I'd be testing the tilt sender.
Unscrew the toothed track and nudge it aside, having marked the sender position.
Then rotate just the sender wheel and see if it goes "bananas" at 25 tilt.

If it does, replace the sender.

There is a big fuse for the leg on top of the engine, mine became intermittent when hot and was the fuse breaking down and going open circuit. Might be worth bridging the fuse and see if it cures your problem. Worth a try.

Looks like this

Steve this may be a Red Kipper but is there not a beach lock to stop you raising the leg to high unintentionally requiring you to push the override button, seems you may be higher than that but it might be a cause if faulty/misaligned
