Is there such a thing as a completely safe oil heater ?

I am gradually assembling all my sailing clothes, spare boat kit, outboards, flag roll, berth cushions, lifebelts, etc in one place in the large windy sheep shed on t'farm.

However, I know that the humidity/dampness in our part of the world can seem to hang around for days, and I would like to use a small extra insulated wooden shed inside the big shed to keep the kit perfectly dry.

Whilst I have a standard oil-filled deLonghi heater, I want to make the shed as safe as possible. Fire-detection connected to the mains power supply, gas (CO2) extinguisher through wax valve, and so forth.

Can anyone recommend a really really safe make, of about 500 to 1000 Watts please ? Or alternative suggestions.

Relying on natural ventilation is not a solution :)

thanks but I know that dehumidifiers are more likely to fail than oil rads. I wanted to see if anyone had a recommendation for a rad.

I used two elderly brown Dimplexes (Dimplices?) at home, one panel and one with tubes. The panel one to my certain knowledge is over forty years old and the other is the same general era. Neither has set fire to anything yet.

thanks for that . Dimplex it will be as soon as I can.

I have some 750 watt Mk1 Dimplex oil filled rads ** in a couple of spare rooms . Over 40 years old I reckon

The beauty is that they have proper thermostats on them and overheating protection but unfortunately one had leaked a bit before we moved here and had been removed to the garage. I fixed that topped it up and refitted it but now two others are leaking. Going to replace them, probably unwisely, with cheap convectors but keep one Dimplex in each room ON permanently

** like these, but wall mounted, http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/d...le_heating/oil_filled_radiators/mk1/index.htm
