Latest report (collision of Hyundai Dominion) recommends that bridge staff should be able to communicate with each other in something other than sign language ... hmm, obvious innit?

MrsE communicates with me using just two fingers and I know what she means, these professionals must be pretty dumb, methinks?

Have a good hol, para? I've got the AIS working and mighty fine it is, too.

well, funnily enuff, the yugoslav OOW of the squillions of tonnes container ship was texting t'other on his AIS system to get out the way when they hit ..

Good hol, ta.

The AIS system is brill. "Saw" 250 ships in one crossing. A novel experience planning a course through a gaggle of 'em from 20m away! Interesting to see how vessels <50,000t react and those >. The big ones just don't give a shoyte.

Compared SeaClear (free with my Nasa engine) & Shipplotter (25 euros) and Shipplotter miles better. Ability to vary projected tracks, target identification and CPA, all easier and, in some cases, only possible with Shipplotter.

The advice re channel B is kosher. The message rate on B is 5% up on A.

Did you cure the GPS flowthrough interruptions by separating GPS & AIS data?

Glad to hear it. We're using Navmaster which by your description seems to do a similar job to Shipplotter and we're dead impressed. To be really swanky we were comparing MARPA and AIS projected tracks, well you've got to do something as you are sailing along.

Still haven't got to the bottom of the GPS interuptions, basically 'cos I was too lazy to do anything about it.

since the auld goat discovered ipod, MrsE has to resort to other methods more immediate than hand gestures eg a foot ... so I understand ..... but will learn more in October?

i bet MrsE knows how to work the go faster/slower lever which is more than the crew of the container ship although the managers did write the instructions in english but unfortunately that wasn't the mother tongue of any of the crew .....

She needs to considering the preferred state of MrE.
