SWMBO is a careful soul, bless her. So when we loaded a good quantity of Euros earlier this year for an extended trip to France she split it into many small sums and secreted them around the boat. She even had a list of which sums were where but "for security" the list was a little, shall we say, cryptic. We had trouble finding some of the cash and we did seem to run out a bit earlier than we expected.

Fast forward to this weekend and a race promising light wind reaching conditions so I asked her to dig out our very old but very large No.1 genoa. The sail was buried at the bottom of a locker but underneath it she found a small brown envelope, and in the envelope 200 Euros!

Now the problem is do we cash them in or keep them for next season?

We met some people in St Lucia who had been burgled (is that the right term for a boat?) while ashore for dinner. They had about £1500 stashed in various hiding places around the boat. The thieves found them all.

I once took the cover off a hibernating motorbike in the garage - in March - and discovered a gift-wrapped bottle of Chanel No5 and, err, a chocolate orange hidden underneath it.

SWMBO got a nice boat-relaunch (not really late xmas, honest) present ;->

OTSO hiding cash - I like the suggestion someone posted here of secreting various amounts of cash in various pockets so that when a chap-in-a-boatyard suggests the offer terms for a small cash job, you can proffer *exactly* your bid (and no more ;-).
