Well we went to Lisbon last month to SEF offices for our interview for our residency cards, all went well, they arrived in Albufeira, one last week and the other the week before. So all well. Left Faro on Ryanair yesterday, big queue for Brits so went in the EU line, guy was all smiles as I said in my best Portuguese, first time we have used them, and all went well. A quick under the counter scan of card and passport and that was it.

If only the UK could institute something similar for EU nationals with settled status.
The current on-line verification thing is naff all use when entering the country.

Not holding my breath though.
Maybe the next government.

Unfortunately an extremely contentious in the UK for some reason. If I remember correctly the government tried to introduce ID cards a few years ago and it failed. They do make things so much easier though once you've got one.

Slight drift, I flew out few weeks back & going through gave bloke UK passport in empty EU line instead of Irish one by mistake , he looked bit stern & said "Are you EU resident?". Ooops I said & swapped for Irish one. Big smile & waved through.
Coming back walked off plane hand luggage at 10am, fiver uber was on the boat before 10:20 with UK line snaking off into the distance..
Smug as f%$# :D

In 2010 I received my residency card with photo and hologram, something what I could show. Last summer first time after brexit I crossed UK border.
“Do you have UK residency?”
“Yes” (and thoughts how to proof this, if it exist only somewhere in database?)
“Ok, you can go”

You can no longer apply for a UK residence card, also called an EEA biometric residence card (BRC).

You cannot use your UK residence card to confirm your right to live, work or rent in the UK.

To continue living in the UK, you need another type of permission to stay, such as settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

The BRC is being phased out and replaced by 'settled status'.
There's a cumbersome on-line verification tool (which can be used by employers, landlords, etc...) but is of no use whatsoever at the border when entering the country.

This is what I mean. I replaced physical card with photo ( we Eastern European used to have ID) for something virtual which I can not show if I needed. After Jamaica scandal I don’t have any trust that my status is ‘settled’.
