we have both a liferaft (never used) and an inflatable dinghy, which has only been used twice in 3 years. even then, it was more for fun than through necessity.

So Ive been thinking we could do away with the dinghy, to save weight (assume 35kg including the outboard) and space in the cockpit locker.

If we ever get to a situation where we desperately need to get ashore for some reason, we could just launch the raft in about 20 seconds (quicker than 20mins stting up the dinghy). Once used, deflate it and send off to be serviced and repacked.

I am sure we would save money in the longer term.

Good idea, eh?

[/ QUOTE ]Oh, yeah, sounds great! How much for the dinghy you are getting rid of??? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You could keep the outboard, and fabricate a Heath Robinson'ish bracket to fit over the tubes of the liferaft, and then see if you can get said life raft up and planing..... what a cool dink that would be! You would be the envy of the Solent!

Maybe someone will invent a liferaft soon that packs itself away again afterwards, rather like watching a movie in reverse..... you would just have to keep a supply of gas canisters handy, and chuck in a new one each time.

Mr. Smyth!.............................................Where DID you get that daft hat? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whats wrong with my daft hat? It is a very nice hat, and I am very proud of it. And it keeps the sun off my nose as well.

(If you really want to know, it is an Aussie bush hat, made by Jacaru - http://www.jacaru.com - I bought it in Cairns 7 years ago when I was on walkabout downunder)

PS Just call me Martin, me don't like Misters......

Hurrah! - we're back to lateral thinking here! Lets have more!

After all I have it on good authority that that's how boats were invented. Having found the big shortcoming of the wheel.

WE don't need the corks here mate, we are civilised......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( as in we dont have the flies in abundance like what they have down under).

Sorry, I should have introduced myself properly to Mr Force10.....
