In the spirit of Blue Peter... have you any uses for out of date Almanacs aboard?

Only had one thought ; stick all the pages together and cut out the centre of the book within the sleeve to make a safe place to keep odds and ends (SWMBO's valuable jewellery)... sad i know!

1. cut em up and laminate the pages you always need like weather broadcast times, port entry lights, shipping forecast areas, tidal stream diagrams etc.

2. keep an old copy at home along with out-of-date charts for passage planning and/or winter dreaming.

Depends what you call OLD. 2001 Mac Reeds and 2004 Block Marine on boat with this / next years tides for Dover and local ports.
1983 Mac Silk Cut and 1995 Block Marine at home for reference.

I keep the previous year's at home too, we use the French one, Votre Livre De Bord, which has very good harbour charts etc from Holland to Gibralter.

I like your idea of cutting out and laminating some of the regularly used pages, like forecast times and so on, provided they are unchanged, must do that this winter.

Just a few years ago I was visiting a U.S.Navy Base ( I was on duty as a Canadian Navy officer), and I went into the PX (i.e. the base retail store) to buy a copy of the latest tide tables. This was in January. I found the new tables on a stand and there, next to them, were the previous year's tide tables, a bargain at half price ! Can you believe it ?

I keep the old one at home - useful for planning. I also cut out and laminated the nice color pages showing the local bouyage in the thames estuary and orwell / harwich ares.
