Leave one on your deckchair when not using it. Works better than a towel to keep Germans away. Very handy for pinning reminder messages to. One prickle will winkle out shellfish.

It can also be used to get a crowd gather around you on a beach, stand on one and everyone comes to find out what all the shouting is about!!

Seriously though, remember seeing a girl in Greece, years ago, stood on one, her foot came up like a balloon, ouch!

Funnily enough I have a sea urchin here on the desk who comments he can't see much use for a Scotchman. I referred him to Dr Johnson.

In greece whre i live, we eat them. or rather my wife who is Greek does... Open up underneath, clean out loose bits, squeeze some lemon juice inside, add olive oil and eat the orangy bits inside. (Yuk!!) i think if you leave them to dry prickles will fall of and shell can make quite nice ornament ,although fragile.

Bon appetite!
