Inspired by SteveE's derision of my woodworking tools on a plastic boat, I cleared out the lazaret over winter. I suppose it's the boaty equivalent of tidying the potting shed (Botnia Targa owners can do both at once, of course ;-)

I cleared out two and a half dustbins full of junk.

So, what's the most useless piece of kit you have fouind yourself carrying aboard the boat?

I have a £6.99 socket set on board. Absolutely useless, has three sizes 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 inch sockets but no adaptors. The only extension bar is 3/8 so you cannot use the 10mm socket (1/4") with an extension bar for example. There is no 17mm socket (most common size IMO).

I am going to make an artificial reef with it, cheap and nasty Chinese crap.

I have an excellent set at home so do not want to spend a fortune to get one similar, if I sail away the good set will come with me, in the meantime.....

Well a guy told me years ago that you should clear everything off your boat each and every year.

you would be surprised at the waterline that this exposes.

I try and do this now and always find stuff down there that I forgot was even O/B. So useless carrying it about.

The most useless kit I think i have it one of those thingies that opens a claw at the end of 18" of tube to collect fallout in difficult places. Even with practice i have yet to catch anything with it. But.....its still in the laz!

This weekend I got rid of the following useless junk

1 A dehumidifier that insted of placing captured water in the container, simply dripped it back on the floor - more of a re-humidifier!

2 Spare cockpit covers that have been in the bilges for 4 years "just in case"

Hoping for an extra 312 knots from weight reduction :)
