Re the earlier thread on preventers: I saw a top tip on my coastal skipper boat recently. The chap had a short line from the end of his boom to the north end of his rodkicker, hooked onto the latter by a rubber bungee with hooks to keep it tight under the boom. To rig his preventer, he simply strolled up the deck with the business end of his preventer line, took it round a forward cleat, then walked it back outside everything to his rodkicker. Boom is well out at the moment, already on a run. He simply unhooked the end of his permanently rigged short line, clipped his preventer line to it, let it go, then hopped back to his cockpit to tie the remaining end tightly to a rear cleat.
Neat, done it ever since. You can gybe it just as easily without having to reach out to the end of the boom to undo it. You can even do that bit after your gybe, providing it was released at the cockpit end first. You just need to revisit the rodkicker and re-thread the line.
I guess you all do this anyway, and that I was the last one to discover it!
