I suppose it must be my age but I have struggled to consistently remember all the "must dos" before leaving my boat. I now remind myself with the word SLEDGE - Sea Cocks; Lock on Locker; Electrics; Diesel; Gas; Ensign. Yes, I have even forgotten to take down the ensign (probably a capital offence).

Hope this might help others. Has anybody got any other acronyms to help the weak minded like me?

Don't worry too much, Morgan! Life is too short.
I don't know about you but I have less left than what I have already used up.
So you forgot to take down the ensign? Big Deal! I have seen them left up all night on public buildings. There was also the case of the national flag being hoisted upside down on the prime minister's official residence.
The one concession that I make is in the case of gas. A red strap hangs out of the lazarette when the gas is turned on; it reminds me to turn it off before I leave the cockpit.
Useful tip - The padlock for the hatch goes straight away onto a U-bolt on the cockpit bulkhead (attachment point) and it is snapped shut over the car keys. This ensures that I remember to lock the hatch and that I don't leave the car keys inside a locked cabin.

Re: How about S H I C S S S . . . ?

Lipton, the tea magnate, supposedly couldn't get elected to the RYS and appeared with a club burgee on his yacht with the initials MOBYC.
He explained it was " My Own Bloody Yacht Club"

No doubt I've got it wrong. But some kind soul will correct me.

On the cardinal; shapes West is the nipped in waist of a Western girl, and East is the shape of an Eastern girl who is wearing her head cover, thus you can only see the slit for the eyes
