We're presently just starting to look for new to us AWB and had been considering spending some time at the various used boat shows that coincide with SIBS to look at examples so that we could at least narrow down the list.

However due to SWMBO's social planning we're looking very busy over the next 3 weekends.

So are we actually missing anything? Previously when buying, most brokers have loads of boats on display anyway and a quick call to them to make sure that someone will be there and no problem.

So what extra is there in a used boat show that makes it a must see?

In theory, as the various brokers are having a used boat show, all the boats should be open, boat details at each boat. Then you can view the various boats without having to ask for keys for each one. Also gives you the opportunity to view boats you may not have considered.

We did actually buy our boat last year from SD Marine at Hamble Point and their boats were displayed as per above. However, Ancasta you had to registar first, then you could only look at a boat with a salesman(who was subcontracted in and knew nothing of the boat) and all boats locked. Other brokers we went to, we also had to ask for boat to be unlocked

I can appreciate that these boats belong to someone and do not want a free for all on their boats, but in general terms things could be improved.

Incidently we purchased a boat we had not considered and a year later we are delighted

I bought my current boat at the used boat sale at Kip in 1997. As others say, a very convenient way to see a lot of boats at one time, although I had really only gone along to see if there was any bargain chandlery on offer. :)

The other thing is that the boats are often there for some time before and after the event so even if you miss the day itself you can still benefit. The other thing is that people who have put boats into these events are more serious sellers than those who don't as a general rule.
