Just fitted a new USB power socket (crawling into the 21st century) only to find the blasted thing had a blue led incorporated and that's something I don't need and don't want. It wasn't advertised as such but that's another story.
Anyone know of one out there that hasn't got one if these bloody things?:disgust:

I had that issue, so I dismantled it and cut the LED connection. It's simple easy, but I agree it's annoying.
 
If it's anything like the one I have, the blue LED is hidden from sight when the rubber cover is in place. Frankly, I can think of more important things to stress about. :rolleyes:
 
I had the same, and despite its apparent triviality, also found it disturbingly bright. In the main saloon area, we didn't need a blue night light (red or green are OK for night vision). So we switched the socket, so that its off when not required, (as suggested above), and also covered the LED with a sticker (not paint as suggested), and now the problem is only the thought of those wasted microwatts.
 
Whether you like the LED or not, you should check the output of these, especially if it's a cheapo Chinese one. Voltage can vary considerably, i even had one putting the full 12v out, fried a brand new tablet.
 
Blue Sea have released a new 12/24v to 5v USB charger. It has higher output than the old model, 4.8A total so it will supply 2x2.4A. It has a low parasitic draw of 1ma, and higher efficiency than all the other chargers I have tested, so it will drain a little less from the batteries.

Most importantly in terms of this thread it has no LED indicator.

Unfortunately it is expensive, very expensive compared to to "no name" versions. However, the cheaper units do have some reliability problems and worryingly sometimes become hot when connected to high drain devices in warmer climates. Hopefully, the higher cost of the Blue Sea model equates to better durability and safety, not just the absence of an indicator light.

Has anybody found one that does not interfere with the am radio. All the ones i have tried in the car and the boat do. Even the review of the Bluesea one says it does. I have tried the rewire and ferrite core methods with no luck.

I've a couple of different types that plug into cigar lighter sockets. They are in use fairly constantly when we are on the boat. I've never noticed either of them interfering with the radio. They are about 6ft from radio and aerial.

I have a double lighter socket usb in the car and two fixed doubles on the boat. None of them produce RFI.
