I have a 7-port USB hub with all manner of stuff hooked into it. Of course they all draw power so I'd like to be able to turn each peripheral on or off without plugging and unplugging.

Anyone aware of a bit of software that I can install on my desktop that allows me to assign and name each port? It would make my life very simple and means I could hide the hub altogether.

Taverymuch.

i dont know of any software that would do what you asked and may be the only way you could do it is to put a switch in the cable of each item you want to turn off/on or go to windows device manager and disable the usb device in turn.

Have you tried the

My Computer
Properties
Hardware
Device Manager
Universal Serial Bus Controllers
then right click and choose Device Usage (disable) in the General tab.

route ?

Clumsy, but you can "disable" each one as you wish.
