USB Charger Tester

I have occasionally wanted to measure the current being drawn by a USB device, especially when charging. I've got a M/F USB lead with a break in the power conductor, so I can connect a meter. It isn't always successful though, so I bought one of these:

For £5 this is amazing, it shows the voltage and current draw, plus other useful info.

Not wishing to rain on your parade, but this one is cheaper and gets good reviews, and is housed:

Long since given up wondering how the Chinese can sell tech gear so cheap, even with low wages.....

I bought that one a while ago to do some testing - seems pretty good.

I regularly buy direct from China / Chinese sellers and its odd that they can sell stuff and deliver in in three or four days for less than the UK portion of the postage, often I can get deliveries faster from China than from within the UK.

My experience buying from China has not been as good. Delivery has been slow - 3-4weeks in most cases though nothing has gone missing or not been as described. However its worth being patient in view of the low prices so I have no problem buying direct from them. My main issue is with some Chinese Ebay sellers advertising items as UK stock or despatched from the UK when they're not.

I tend to use Amazon to purchase from rather than Ebay as I've had worse experiences on Ebay. A lot of it is just pot luck, I've had deliveries over Christmas in four days from order to delivery from China, quality of some stuff is not top notch but its not branded things I'm buying so I'm happy.

Lieing about location and company details seems commonplace these days, and lots of sellers on Amazon either refuse to enter their details, or set themselves up as "One Hung Low Company UK Limited" to give the impression that they are a genuine UK company. The good thing on Amazon is more and more people are putting in the feedback that things were sent from China.

I recently gave a 3 star seller review on Amazon and noted that delivery was slow, almost 5 weeks, and longer than quoted and got loads of hassle from the seller to remove my review. I gave them two alternatives - buy a 5 star review from me or stop harassing me or it would get lowered to 1 star.

It's only a numeric LED, not nearly as cool as OLED:

The cumulative mAh display is very handy.
