i have been given a standard horizon hx270e hh radio. the chap who owned it was a delivery skipper. i bought myself a charger and it has charged up and appears fine. however when switched on, in the tp right hand corner of the display it says USA. does this mean it is an american spec radio that can only be used in those waters.
cheers

Sorry. ignore this. found a manual online and you can change this. typically rushed in without reading the instructions first

It's always just after you post that you stumble over the answer! You will, of course, find that if the radio was manufactured for any market other than UK changing to International channels will not get you the commonly used private channels used her in UK. You may be able to get a SH dealer to program them in for you though, if you feel it's worth the expense.

My US Walmart bought Midland has been a most reliable piece of 'cheap rubbish', unlike my Icom M1 wo want more for a replcement battery than I paid for the Mdland, and works fine in Int setting for all the channels I need, although mostly 80 to call up the Marina.

Been working fine since 2008.

Yes it seems a good little radio. You can change it to USAA Canada or international. It was free too. So all good.

Will just be missing M (also known as 37) and M2. The latter is almost exclusively used for clubs organising races, but I believe the former is occasionally used for marinas and water taxis.
