I'm trying to get some parts in a hurry, ie tomorrow morning Wednesday 2nd April. If you stumble across this thread later than then, please ignore it.

Due to a supplier let-down problem I want if possible to find someone in the Poole or Southampton area that has in stock 2 off 3/4inch BSP pipe nipples, as in the picture below. They must be 316 stainless. Brass, bronze, dzr will not do for the particular job. BSP thread can be parallel or tapered - doesn't matter

Please can anyone suggest name of a stockist you think might have these? In Poole, Southampton, Brighton or anywhere south coast UK really. (It doesn't have to be a marine chandler of course). If a stockist can be found I want to send a taxi to collect the parts and deliver them tomorrow morning (2 April 2014) to a s/steel fabrication workshop in Poole, who are making something for me. I need the finished fabrication back at home in London tomorrow night (another taxi...)

I have already eliminated Piplers, Force4, Seascrew, MarineSuperstore. The fantastic ASAP have them in stock (in Norfolk) but we only discovered this problem AFTER their cut off for next-day delivery.

(Also if anyone has a son/daughter/mate with a day off school who wants to drive said items to Poole and then London (Westminster) and earn a couple of hundred quid pocket money plus petrol cost please PM me on that score too!)

Have you tried Aquafax at Hamble? They usually keep S/S fittings, or would it be possible to get 3/4 S/S skin fitting and cut end off to use threaded section?

I know you've said 316, but just to double check, 314 is no use?

Friend has them in stock in Birmingham, and could arrange motorcycle courier - 2 hrs del'y time.

If you're prepared to throw some money at it, could you persuade a local machine shop to make a couple from tube/bar first thing tomorrow?

I only know Fusion welding in Lymington http://www.fusionfab.co.uk/

It seems the ones my mate has probably are 316, so the option is there if you don't find anything closer.

edit- 2 hrs was to Lymington, 2 1/2 to Poole

Thanks for all the replies. Aquafax don't list 316 s/s nipples but they do have skin fittings so thanks for that "chop 'em off" idea aquapower. RS Components are middlemen not stockist of plumbing gear so they won't do their premium delivery service on this item. "Hyphose in Southampton for f*cks sake" are the firm that has let me down on delivery! They have spent 7 days NOT delivering these items :-)

Thanks for the suggestions of hydraulics suppliers generally - I'll google based on that.

Nick thanks for the Birmingham idea and if I get nowhere by 10am or so I'll likely be making a contribution to the Birmingham taxi sector of the economy. I'd prefer to get the things in Poole by 11am tbh, and therefore Aquapower's idea to use Aquafax's skin fittings is likely my cheapest/easiest option - I can get them taxi-ed to Poole by 11am I reckon

Just seen your post John.

Give Uxbridge boat centre a call on 01895 252019

Unfortunately I'm away from home at the moment but they are just around the corner from us and have a great stock of stuff you need to build a boat with, all be it a narrow boat !

If they have the parts and I can be of any help call me via charter Solent.

Henry :)

Thanks for all the further replies. This forum is a mine of useful info. Virtual cigar must be awarded to H2O, post #11 - that supplier is only a £10 taxi ride from where I need to get the nipples delivered and they have them in stock ?£2-3 each sheesh (no marine premium :D) , so they will be where I need them easily by 11am tomorrow. Thanks again everyone - mission is looking accomplished!

Come on JFM, spill the beans !!!.... did the right bits get to the right place at the right time ?????
Hi Steve
Yes they did thanks! Supplier mentioned above supplied them first thing this morning to the Poole s/steel fabrication firm. Then everything got welded up and was in courier van (the totally excellent and highly recommended Astral Couriers in Poole) from Poole to London this afternoon. I now have all the bits and am off to airport tmrw 7am to fly to the boat and install it. The items in question are engine raw water strainers with new fresh water flush valves added. I'll post a pic maybe tomorrow night.

Many many thanks to everyone for the helpful responses

On Friday I'm having the boat lifted out at La Rague, just west of Cannes, for the annual scrub up, so I'll get pics of the propellers after a winter parked up with Firefly's TK spray anti foul. I have 4 fresh cans of the TK to apply to the props before she is launched on Monday. Photos and vid to follow.

I'm looking forward to a boatyard weekend - like lots of you guys, when I'm in a boatyard I'm like like a pig in youknowwhat.

NickH will be there, another forumite will be there who is secretly buying a boat but I must leave him to spill the beans of course, EME cant make it (in Florida; got a better offer) and Jimmy Le Constructeur will you be around?
