I really need your advice on a serious problem.

I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on
me.

The usual signs, if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs
up and she goes out with the girls a lot.

I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I
usually fall asleep.

Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat.
When she came home she got out of someone's car buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on.

It was at that moment crouched behind the boat that I noticed a
hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket.

Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace the whole bracket?

Sorry, couldn't resist

Does the wifes boyfriend have a boat,is it bigger than yours ?

If so,you might want to start a relationship with him yourself !

Sounds as if the crack will only continue to open up if allowed to carry on.
The downside, though,is that if you decide to use a permanent filler (welding might be a little extreme),you run the risk of curtailing your own future use. Maybe you might be better off by consigning the existing one to the scrapheap and replacing with a newer model.

A friend of mine, a paramedic in London, told me of a similar problem solved by a customer of his.

It seems that using super glue to hold the legs together to keep the crack closed causes severe distress and leads to some interest from the local plod.

On balance, welding might take longer; particularily if there is some movement between the parts and the selection of rods can be hell. Hence the term 'making a rod for one's own back'.

You mean you have a wife, AND a boat.
That can lead to trouble in deed.
Sounds like you best let things run their course and with a bit of luck you will soon just have the boat (the bracket on which will, I am sure, be a relatively simple fix)!
