HAYLP!!

I'm trying to find two different types of what I think is UPVC. Firstly is a flat rectangular section, say 4mm x 25mm (about a 1.5m long) to be used as a runner for our companionway hatch.
Secondly is something I have been searching for for ages. I guess it could be described as a "protection" strip to cover the edge of the hull around the sugar scoop. Sort of an elogated U section.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Can't help you with suppliers, but have you considered that upvc is rather brittle, and not very hard-wearing?

I would have thought that nylon would be better for your hatch runners, and a rubbing strake moulding better for your stern

Not Nylon. There's a marine plastic that might do....I can't remember it's name or the reference to it that was posted here a few days ago.

You're better off with SS for the runners and nitryl rubber for the strake.

Woss wrong with nylon?

OK it's supposed to swell slightly when used for rudder bearings, but it lasts pretty well when used for zips, buckles, ski and sledge runner bases, rope, sliding door and table top runners, folding-stay bearings etc etc

And it is low friction.

I suppose it all depends on what clearance you have around the runners then.....I'd not want runners that might bind the hatch when they got wet............

Nylon would be fine for the hatch but, when I did mine I couldn't get hold of a suitable bit of nylon and I ended up using strips of Tufnol which have been fine. Personally, I wouldn't use SS as it isn't the easiest of materials to work.

For the sugar scoop these or these may be able to help.
