We are about to refurbish a Fairline Vixen and desperately need some hints and tips on DIY upholstery. In particular, are there any books, manuals etc explaining upholstery techniques when working with vinyl, leatherette etc?
We're based in East Sussex so recommendations about helpful souls down here would be appreciated too.

Ask Chris Nunn at Newhaven (01273 584179) for a quote.

He did a far bett job on mine than I could have done for half the price marine upholsterer quoted and just 20% more than the cost of the materials.

I think upholstery work is one of those things that you have to have a skill for and practiced for years. You might be able to pull an engine to bits by following a book, but not upholstery IMHO

No its easy. Especially if youve got old ones to copy. The foam must be slightly larger all round than the covers to ensure a good finish. I was surprised how easy the vinyl was to sew on a domestic machine when I repaired some old ones. But I must admit to going to evening classes before doing a three piece suite. There are some books about.....try the local library.
