Hi

I would be very grateful if someone would advise me on what material is best to use for interior upholstery on a fairly wet, well used, small sailing yacht.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

We reupholstered our boat in 2002 with Microcare fabric and have been delighted. Sailing today were doing a trial of the fabric but so far no report back. The fabric is designed to repel water penetration and has a soft warm feel unlike vinyl.

There are a number of very suitable patterns and colours and my wife did all the sewing on a domestic machine. Suppliers try Google

If you want more information and some photos please send a PM

G'day Steve,

During my full on racing time and after many trials and failures we used a soft vinyl, light grey in colour with a white piping around the seams. it was always wet with bodies, sails, waves, rain and all sorts of stuff got spilt on it but it came up looking great every time.

A dry towel is a good cover when it gets hot or too cold or even wet.
Avoid zippers, we used Velcro and always took them off the bunks when leaving the boat for more than a few days so the under bunk storage could breath.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I own a Quarter Tonner and it gets a wee bit damp on the saloon cushions when changing wet foresails. The solution our trimmer suggested was that we had suedette v berth cushions which are slept on regularly, very comfy, and the saloon cushions which needed to be more waterproof , were covered in a very closely matched colour, but in a modern canvas type cloth, the same as sprayhood or boom cover material. The saloon cushions are now always dry at night , are very durable and the covers can be unzipped and washed if need be. By the way , the underside of the saloon cushions is a vinyl material.
It solved our problems and no complaints from any guests that sleep on the saloon cushions from time to time.
Regards,
Matt.
