I am renovating my deck saloon sailing yacht and need to replace the ivory coloured faux leather saloon upholstery.

I am considering the choice between Alacantara or Connolly hide leather. We want to retain the light Ivory colour interior.

I just don't know how real leather wears in the UK climate and with people sitting on it in wet sailing clothes (with sailing we are inevitably on deck in all weathers). I have been told that wet denium stained light coloured leather car seat!

A previous yacht had a dark blue alacantara and it wore well in the 3 yrs on the UK charter market when we owned it but do wonder about the stain resistance of a light coloured Alacantara

Appreciate advice from anyone with experience of either of these materials and colours.

Thanks

Neither material but we thought long and hard about our saloon cushions we were given a piece of 'Impala' material in stone colour for a week prior to deciding. I left red wine on it overnight and then just wiped it off. It also resisted being 'keyed' resulting in us buying it a couple of years ago. They look as good now as when they were fitted. It was expensive but well worth it in our opinion. Might give you something else to think about.

Leather will not be a material of choice for me. However, if you go look at Alcantara EXO, that is specifically formulated for exposed and semi exposed areas on boats - go look here.

Sit down before you hear the price.

It is an excellent material, with very durable wear characteristics, and highly resistant to staining. Used in the higher end of the automotive industry.

I managed to find an "offcut" of alcantara (blue) on ebay for <£25/m and it is great. I thoroughly recommend it. I am not sure I could have afforded the full price version. No amount of "sitting down" would have helped pay the mortgage!
