I posted this on the MB forum but it obviously should have been here. I'm thinking about moving to Uphill if Watchet don't get the dredging problem sorted as I don't mind a mud berth at a mud berth price. I've had some good feedback from an owner who moors in the river and a note about the public footpath, but with several live-aboards berthed there the security should be fairly OK. Wondered if anyone else has stayed there. I must admit that the boatyard rather than marina style does suit me and my mate who would also move his boat there. Any comments?
Thanks, Peter.

I'm moored there at the moment - and I do have a mooring on the river as well with WBYC.

Its a quiet laid back place - no problems with the footpath issue. No late night drunks !

Tidal access is its drawback. My berth dries at 9m on Admiralty predictions - so come any small neaps I won't even float for several days. ( I draw 3 ft or so )

Take this coming weekend as an example - I could get off up to Sat night HW ( 11.4 Avonmouth - 10.4 Uphill ) - then to get back on to that berth would be the following week Sat morniing ( 10.1 - and thats tight ! ).

Ok - the tides running into June are smallish - but the fact is - if I wanted to get away this weekend I would have to be gone by Sat - and if I was returing in less than a week I'd have to go on the river. My berth is about average - a few are lower. Without the river mooring it would be difficult.

River moorings with WBYC are fine - mostly drying about 7m - so a good 2.5 hrs either way on most tides - and always access even at the lowest neaps. There are vacancies and no waiting list. River Axe is easy to navigate and fairly easy at night.

Uphill Pill is ok once you know it - but its not the place to be messing around much after HW - or in the dark, if you can possibly help it.

I use Watchet - and it seems way better for either top of tide - day sailing - or cruising - and easier access at night. You also have gated security - regards either leaving the boat or staying aboard. I have thought of permanently mooring there.

Uphill is a cheap option for a larger boat - the pontoons are a fixed price up to 32' I think.

For a 22 ' boat its expensive for what it is - but its a unique little spot and it suits me based in Bristol. I stay aboard a lot all through the year - its a pleasant spot to chill out.

I've had the boat on the river there for 8 years - and about 2 up at the boatyard pontoons. Nothing stolen or damaged in that time.

Be careful of the very big tides up there ( 14+ Avonmouth ) - it floods everywhere across the saltmarsh and you don't know where you are !
