Upgrading 10hp outboard?

Dear All,

I have a Mercury XR 10hp long shaft outboard. I have read on previous post that some of you have recommended making minor adjustments to the carbareter to increase the overall performance ie 10hp to 15 hp.

Does anybody know if this possible with this engine?

Step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about the Mercury but when we were looking at Tohatsu at the Boat Show the guy showed us that all it needed was a new widget that allowed the throttle to open further!! (10hp to 15hp).
