Updating software on Raymarine C80

I've downloaded the latest chartplotter software from the Raymarine site, expanded the two files from the downloaded zip file and copied both to a CF card, using the Navionics card reader.

Raymarine's instructions say switch off chartplotter, insert update CF card and switch on - you should go to a screen that allows you to choose to update the software, but my chartplotter just starts up as normal but with the default map.

It does recognise the CF card because I was able to sucessfully backup all my routes, waypoints and tracks.

Has anyone done a S/W update and if so did the Raymarine instructions work?

I did one on my C120 a couple of years ago, and the instructions did work. I can't remember anything about it though, so can't really help.

Yep mine spotted the two files and updated automatically. The files have to be in the root ditrectory though.

Format the CF card using the FAT format then copy the extracted files to it.
The key is in formating using FAT, (not FAT32 or NTFS)

I had a similar problem updating from version 3.18 to 4.25 some years ago. After much fruitless discussion with Raymarine Tech Support (and being sent a CF card of theirs to try), I discovered that the problem was the "autorun.dob" file packaged with 4.25. I tried the one packaged with 3.18 and everything worked fine. I told them what had happened - I'm still waiting their response......

Thanks for the input

Looking at the responses I suspect that my CF card has been formatted using FAT32 not FAT 16, so I'm in process of getting standard CF card reader and a smaller card that will format correctly. Hopefully this will then sort out the updating issues.
