Garmin have been making a lot of changes to the subscriptions to their Navionics charts on iPad, and now advertise "one account for all devices", so that you can use the same subscription on iPad and iPhone. But does this now also extend to updating charts on Raymarine MFDs?

Previously IIRC I had to buy another subscription for the MFD, faff around with microSD cards, then it never updated properly anyway. So I am reluctant to renew iPad subscription unless they have streamlined and simplified the MFD update too so that it just updates over wifi.

Unfortunately as far as I’m aware, 1 sub for mobile devices and another for chartplotter, not seen anything about future changes to this

Appreciate it's of no help to the OP, but with a Garmin plotter it's one chart for all devices. The plotter and phone/tablet all use the same charts and the mobile app' checks for updates of charts and firmware and updates all equipment on my N2K network.

wow that is as it should be. I hope Raymarine will follow.

I assume that it’s not a choice of raymarine but Navionics, the Garmin option is it with garmin charts?

But does that mean they will actually change anything as the Navionics charts and app must make a good amount of income across the multiple manufactures

The Garmin plotters use Garmin charts. My plotter came with pre-installed charts and when i registered the plotter those charts became downloadable to my phone and they work with the Garmin Active Captain app. As i said earlier, the app' also checks for chart and firmware updates for all of my registered electronics, which are connected to the plotter via a N2K network. The app' then syncs any updates, along with any routes or waypoints. I do my passage planning on a 24" screen using OpenCPN and email the .gpx file to myself. When i touch the file on my phone it open the Garmin app' and syncs it with the plotter.

Raymarine have a way to go in this respect. They may (or may not) be hindered by having to use other companies charts (perhaps they should have bought Navionics). But, at least they should have a reliable and simple way of getting routes and waypoints from one device to the other. Some stuff works on some models of plotter, on others it unusable.

They have already made changes, no longer a need to buy a chart for the iPad and one for the iPhone.
