Hi,

After scrolling through VHF, I found my MMSI, to cut a long story short it is still registered to previos owner. Spoke to Holyhead CG, who advised to change details over to me.
Any advise how to do this through Ofcom? Can it be done online, do I need previous owners consent??
The boat and VHF are registered with the CG via a CG66 form, which shows all of my information, it is just the MMSI ownership is is incorrect.

On the OFCOM site, when applying for a change to, or a new Ships radio licence, you should get the option to enter the exsisting MMSI details.

I think that somewhere on the OFCOM pages it is possible to transfer the details to yourself. I think it starts when you request the radio licence and the form asks if the boat has been registered for a licence before. It is possible, did it with the last boat but I think I transferred it to the new owner.

Best just look on the OFCOM site or phone them up.

When you got the boat you should have applied for a new ship's radio licence on line, in your name, with the name of the boat and it's existing call sign. This would also tie in the existing MMSI number to your details. The previous owner should have cancelled his ship's licence when he sold the boat.

The VHF licence is not transferable from one owner to the next.
You should therefore apply for a new licence via the Ofcom site using your own current ID

Unless things have been changed there is no facility to transfer the exiting licence to you ..but maybe they have but if they have I cannot find any details.

IIRC you will be able to enter the existing vessel call sign and the MMSI number as part of the process.
(both of these stay with the vessel)

Print your new licence when all complete.

It may complicate matters if the previous owner has not surrendered his licence.
You should surrender the licence for your previous boat. You are obliged to do this under the terms of the licence

In case of any difficulty phone Ofcom on the number on the website. They usually sort out any problems without fuss.

Quite separately you should have advised the coastguard that you have sold your previous boat.

Then you should then have registered the details of the new one, including the VHF call sign and MMSI number
