a friend was on his way to ramsgate from burnham and despite the fact that Roger's waypoints appear to take you over a drying point he took my word for it that you coud trust the new chartlet o Crossing the Thames Estuary. he reports back that the waypoints Rogers suggests on the new chartlet are 'spot on'.

so again thanks Roger!

Pleasure. It is always slightly reassuring when someone else makes it work as well even though I went back and forwards quite a few times.

I think I might send my data into the UKHO.

And now I know I should have installed a meter!

I think that is there for a while. It's much deeper than the other side ever was and that in fairness took a few years to close up. It was 'going' before those unusual winter storms. But fingers crossed everyone.

Update on the Update....... We went through yesterday ......1st September at 13:00 . We never had less that 8 metres ..... Great job Roger.

You are all very kind but if I am to have a memorial could it be something that lasts.........

As food for thought, there was 5.4m there in 1992 and it was found to be drying 1 metre in 2003-2006 (last time it was officially surveyed)!

We came across the Saturday before last - but as we were about to depart Ostend for home yesterday, we were shown a miraculous new discovery on someone's mobile phone - a mini chartlet of the track across the Sunk. The owner was a bit surprised and disappointed when I accurately guessed the origin of the secret chartlet....

I am going to add my little bit of praise for Crossing The Thames Estuary.

We bought our first boat last May. The only sailing we have ever done before was a couple of holidays sailing Wayfarers, many years ago. It has been a steep learning curve but I now have Day Skipper and my wife has Competent Crew and we are doing OK on the whole. On 23 May we left our base at Chichester and after 11 separate passages we arrived in Ipswich last week. The most challenging passage was Gillingham to West Mersea, but we bought the latest edition of Crossing The Thames Estuary, read it very carefully, chose a day with good visibility, and the entire trip was a pleasure. This book and the website are the most wonderful resource because all the information you need is there, it has been compiled by someone who understands how passage plans are prepared, and there is no extraneous nonsense getting in the way. I am amazed that a book like this can be produced at such a modest price and I wouldn't be without it for anything.

Another thank you. Traigh went through yesterday. A small point, we found the shallowest was about a cable east of the eastern waypoint. Only a smidgen shoaler, not nit picking, but could this be a sign of it shifting in the future?
Thanks again, valuable info.

We also went through a fortnight ago with a friends boat Wallop, enroute to Foyey. Recommended your pilot to friends who have bought it - excellent read, highly recommended.
