We went to collect it today when arrived and looked at the transom clamp the date was stamped 1997 so we decided as it was an incorect listing (listing stated approx 5 yrs old ) not to have it, all mutually agreed with the seller.

cheers again for all the help.

Thanks for the info. I have bought 30 odd items on eBay and never had a bad buy. Didn't you make a reduced offer? I would probably have done so because they were a good engine and will run for many years yet if looked after.

hi mrcramp my parents have had many good buys on ebay, i get wary when you ask some the seller for numbers to confirm age of engine and then say oh i didnt see the date and i didnt realise it was that old, I didnt make a reduced offer as what else could they be not telling you or hiding,
will keep looking no rush
cheers
