Looking at travelling up to Bray for an overnight stop before heading further up Thames and would greatly appreciate suggestions on safe moorings upstream(will separately request a safe mooring and protection in Bray this time given the company there /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif!). Not quite looking for a 4 ft draft like Gavi! Have been up to Marlow and back to Bray in a day previously, but this time thought would go further and moor up for two nights, perhaps three before turning and retracing our steps.

Best wishes

2 suggestions:

Higginson park Marlow, on the right after the bridge. last count 17 restaurants and 24 pubs within walking distance. Only 1/2 a day from bray but with all those pubs........ You could lunch there if you want to press on.

Outside the george and dragon in wargrave. It says no overnight mooring so I suggest you dont ask if it's OK. Nice pub grub. A day from bray unless you want to go mad.

Not a fan of the George and Dragon but prefer downstream a little from there on the EA moorings. If you have a tender, you can always run up there. I would do Henley over Marlow from Bray unless you want a very relaxed day (and I live in Marlow!).

I thought he said "Safe", mooring in Higginson Park hardly that over other places?

Agree with JECUK over George and Dragon, never again!

Also agree, about Henley, Fawley Meadow would get my vote every time.

We had a good night in Marlow, but were lead to believe that there was a possibility of noise or being cast adrift during the night.

A consideration would be the likelihood of late night youths rampaging around on these warmer evenings...

So, depending on the night of the week (Weekends and holidays are more fraught) consider Henley despite the fact we have experienced no issues!

Temple Island looks ripe for a takover bid too! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's already been taken over - by the geese!
Or are you thinking the Raven's Ait type of takeover?

I thought we could make it into a Holistic and Barbeque venue...perhaps with some free moorings for Cruisers between 29'6" and 30'6"....

As I said, we had none, so I assume it's only peak times when the bad boys are out playing! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's a question of being prepared, you never know. I always drop my anchor. I generally tie my ropes beneath the level of the path, although now that they have put metal half rings on the posts I sometimes don't but always make sure the ropes are tied off back at the boat.
I have heard of boats being let go there, but then there are few places on the river where that hasn't happened.
