It seems our club pontoons have both had unsavioury visitors and the police have been advised and are keeping an eye out. Have any other Portsmouth or Solent Sailing Clubs had a recent problem with thefts?

It was more than 10 years ago. The Admiral and I were asleep on the boat when we were woken by a bang On investigation, a couple of youngsters were legging it down the pontoon and our tender OB was on the pontoon. They jumped into a dinghy and headed for a nearby pontoon, pursued by Kevin, a rather large club member whose club would have very little trouble if he were the bouncer. The lads got to the pontoon as Plod arrived, so they were faced with the choice of Kevin coming at them from the seaward side and Plod waiting at the shore end. To our disappointment, but probably wisely, they chose Plod.

Hardway has had other problems over the years, but the recent installation of CCTV led to the conviction of a couple of local scrotes and there've been no problems since.

You did say Portsmouth didn't you?

I thought if one looked up crime in the dictionary its simply said..."Refer to Portsmouth".
