\"Unique?\" Eberspacher problem?

Just searched the whole forum, but cant find an example of this problem...which probably means that no one will have experienced it, but here goes. My heating works perfectly (old 4DL) on half heat, starts first time, doesn't smoke at all (had it de-coked last yr), but as soon as I put it on full heat, it smokes and chuffs like a train. It gets hot, but it clearly isn't happy. Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks, Mike.

Sounds like an air leak. Check gasket on heat exchanger. Sometimes the HE gets distorted and causes this problem too...

I'll check the air intake. The gasket leak sounds worrying. I guess this might mean noxious fumes getting blown through the cabin?

Not necessarily. What it means is that there is an air leak so that excess air is getting drawn in where it shouldn't be and messing up combustion.
I hasten to add this is only one possible cause though.
